It’s the end of August
The Burning Man Festival
is taking place in the Black Rock Desert Nevada.
This week long event attracts 80,000 people annually. There is no commerce. You take what you need with you to survive and leave without a trace.
On the last day a 70 ft tall wooden effigy of a man is burnt in a ritualistic dance. To be replaced at next year’s festival.

It’s a time to think about fire and its properties of renewal.
When we hear about forest fires around the world, it seems one more step towards our self destruction through climate change.
But they are not new.
Woodland fires have existed from time immemorial to clear our dead and diseased trees. To stimulate new growth.

This week I have been celebrating my own Burning Festival on my terrace.
Old papers and letters which no longer have any benefit have been burned and the ashes distributed around my roses.
I now feel full of light and renewed energy.

Sometimes we’re too afraid to go of the past. That somehow we’ll lose a part of our identity.
But the past is gone. And to hold on to it simply weighs you down.
Why not see the 1st Sept as a date for a new start? To be light and free.
See you there!
