Why would someone who has run restaurants and cafes for decades be any good as a hypnotherapist?
Many business owners suffer greatly from anxiety and stress, but restaurant owners in particular.
Every day and evening on site is a performance. When the curtain goes up, all the cogs of the wheel have to be in place for the session to roll. If it doesn’t come together, your reputation is toast. It’s relentless.
So I know about stress from the inside: the good parts that are temporarily performance enhancing, and the many less good which wear you down and can lead to depression, when there seems to be no respite.
After my Psychology degree, I decided to make a career from my passion for food, and opened a small cafe selling home-cooked food where there was no compromise on the quality of ingredients. There were no “foodies” then, and the concept was novel. For 30 years I built up successful restaurants and a cafe chain with the same ethos.
But what I had learnt in my Psychology degree was ever present. The study of human behaviour is endlessly fascinating, and very useful in many aspects of business. including the hamster wheel of perfection.
After selling the company in 2007, I set up a practice as a restaurant consultant in London, where I helped restaurant owners bring their dreams to reality, and to keep many afloat financially. From time to time I found myself as a confidante for restaurant owners who were experiencing stress.
This softer side of my restaurant advisory work caused me to rethink what I really wanted to do in my working life. I had been a Hypnotherapy client, and knew how incredibly effective this was, particularly the solution-focused method, in reducing anxiety.
Since achieving a diploma in Clinical Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy, I have discovered the pure joy of helping clients transform their lives. The process is a partnership, and probably the most important factor is the synergy between me, the therapist and you, the client.
I regard my function as that of enabler and I’m there primarily to cheer you on, using the powerful techniques of both talking therapy and trance relaxation to help get you to a better place in your life, removing any blocks standing in the way of your path to success and happiness.
