Tinnitus is when you hear a noise inside your ears, but there is no external source. It’s usually described as ringing. But there are also variations of this: whooshing or whistling for example.
Most people who have tinnitus also have some degree of hearing loss. Particularly on the upper registers.
If medical causes have been ruled out, then it need not be a cause for alarm. More often, it’s just irritating for the sufferer in varying degrees.
How can hypnotherapy help Tinnitus?
Because the brain is involved in processing sound, it provides information on whether certain noises are benign or threatening.
If we are in a state of high stress the experience of tinnitus only adds to this negative emotional mindset. Awareness is acute.
With a more relaxed positive mindset, perception of the noise diminishes. You learn to live with tinnitus and it ceases to be so much of a problem.
