What is Hypnotherapy
So what is hypnotherapy? The main thing to be clear on is that it’s not the kind of hypnosis that you see on stage, which is purely entertainment.
Hypnotherapy is a very gentle kind of treatment which works with the client to help achieve their goals: Whether it be to stop smoking, eradicate a phobia or to help with many conditions which have anxiety and stress at their base.
It’s also brilliant for improving performance, increasing confidence or simply making a client happier, leading to a life with more ease and fulfilment.
In solution focused hypnotherapy we adopt a forward-looking positive approach. This is different from the more traditional forms of psychotherapy which burrow back into the past attempting to find the causes for the current problem. While such factors should be known about and acknowledged, this solution-based approach is often a relief for clients who fear delving back into the trauma which has been such a bad experience for them in the past.
Hypnotherapy achieves all this with a mixture of talking therapy and a session of gentle trance.
This is a very natural state: you probably go to a trance like state from time to time during the day without realising it when you are relaxed but focused, maybe driving a car, watching television, or in that dreamy state before you fall asleep at night.
The important thing to know is that you can never be hypnotised against your will. In fact a hypnotherapist cannot persuade client to do or think anything they do not wish to.
The trance process is simply a lovely experience of being extremely relaxed where suggestions are made by the therapist in line with the client’s own aims. And because the mind is open with a direct line to the subconscious, new happier patterns of thought and behaviour can take place, and in time become the default way of being.
